BASS FISHING TIPS AND TRICKS:

How to effectively use color to catch more fish!

  1. Try bright colors in murky water.
    Such as:
Fluorescent Chartreuse, Lime Green, and Pizzazz Orange.

  2. Use dull or natural looking colors in clear water.
    Examples:
Olive Green, Copper, Dark Green, or Splash Blue.

  3. On overcast days or at night use light or bright colors
    Such as:
Fluorescent Chartreuse, Lime Green, and Pizzazz Orange, Bright Red,
     Brilliant Blue, and Bubble Gum
  4. In Spring, instead of the usual dull or natural looking colors you would try in clear water try startling colors and color combinations such as Pizzazz Orange and Fluorescent Chartreuse.
  5. Spinnerbaits usually work in clear water. But if fish are spooked or the lighting situation is too bright for ultra clear water try using Black or a color on your Spinner blade to reduce the flash.
  6. As a rule of thumb use Silver Dazzler or Holographic Silver   in bright light situations.
  7. In dull lighting or discolored water or warm water use middle range colors, less flash and added fluorescence.
  8. Add Bright Red strips or crescent shapes any time you want to provide the look of gills or blood from an injury. This helps elicit a quicker predatory response towards the lure.
  9. If fishing deep water 10 ft. and deeper:
    use color combos such as
    white
/Splash Blue or Brilliant Blue white/Tropical Pink,
    or white with/greens
such as Lime Green Olive Green
    or Lime GreenDark Green)
these colors have maximum contrast and reflectance and will be more visible and effective on fish which are lurking deep.
  10. On the belly of topwaters or shallow diving plugs in calm clear waters in bright light try Holographic Silver  with white and/or Splash Blue. This will attract the fishes attention while helping the lure blend with the sky and clouds so the fish doesn't get too good a look at the lure. But try Black on chrome bellied lures or Bright Red on white  bellied lures in calm murky waters or low light to improve visibility of the lure.
  11. The colors Fluorescent Chartreuse, Lime Green, and Pizzazz Orange, or Bright Red are generally good at mid depths; 10 ft. or less.
  12. When fishing crankbaits on active fish under normal conditions it is always a good idea to try colors and color combinations that resemble the colors of the forage that inhabits the local waters. Then if the bite slows down don't change the lure or presentation but try some small color changes to catch those more neutral fish. Because bass mostly rely on their sense of sight for predation, this approach will produce quality bass as consistently as any fishing technique the angler has available.
